Utility Mapping

GPR and RFL Detection

A full underground Utility Survey is the most comprehensive mapping service on the market. At Safedigging we understand the importance of good quality, up to date & reliable utility information.

Construction  -  Real Estate  -  Civil  -  Utilities  -  Rail  -  Highways  -  Heritage

By utilising the latest in subsurface detection techniques, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Radio Frequency Locators (RFL), Safedigging can work virtually anywhere to locate and mark out the depth, position and type of all buried utilities.

Working to PAS128 specification standards for underground utility detection, verification and location,  Safedigging will find services including electrical cables, steel mains pipes, plastic gas and water pipes, fibre optic ducts, concrete sewers and clay drainage pipes down to a depth of up to 2m.

Once all of the perimeters have been identified, Safedigging will use appropriate equipment in a proven and methodical manner. All services found will be marked immediately (together with relevant depths where possible) using specialist biodegradable paints, with different colours to indicate utility type.

Utility Detection - RF Locators

In the Utility Industry alone, four million trenches and holes are dug each year, at a cost of £1 billion. Many of these are dug without the excavator knowing exactly what they might find.

Safedigging provide the solution

GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) is now widely accepted as a key technology in the increasingly difficult task of locating underground services, particularly those utilities of a non-metallic nature.

GPR is non-invasive and enables Safedigging to detect all types of underground services, whether they are metallic pipes, electrical mains, PE ducts, fibre optic cables, plastic gas or water services, clay drainage systems or concrete sewers.

Safedigging surveyors use the latest IDS Stream C Radar for real-time 3D mapping of underground features & utilities

The level of accuracy provided by its massive antenna array allows pipes & cables to be detected automatically and an accurate 3D reconstruction of the underground utility network to be created from a single scan.  This means we can ensure full coverage even for larger survey areas (PAS128 M1 & M2P).

Effective in locating non-metallic pipework
Able to detect voids and other underground features
Able to detect underground tanks and basements
In ALL cases, GPR must be undertaken alongside an Electromagnetic survey

Safedigging services are HSE & PAS128 compliant and cost effective

All of our surveyors have completed SPA Training, NRSWRA & Confined Space Training as well as being CRB checked. In addition, our Supervisors have completed IOSH Managing Safely Careers.

  • No unecessary trial-hole excavations
  • Reduced danger of utility strikes
  • Reduced risk of insurance premium increases
  • Removes risk of injury & damage to services
  • Helps meet HSE(G)47 AND CDM regulations
  • Rolling survey techniques = no traffic delays
  • Identifies clear space below ground enabling the route of new pipelines & cabling to be plotted with greater confidence
  • No form filling
  • Minimised risk of fines due to works overrun
Desktop Mapping

When planning a dig it is normal to request a set of utility 'stats' from all or any utility provider you may believe has apparatus in that location. Safedigging's Desktop Mapping service takes the pain out of this process.

We will canvas all known asset owners within your excavation area and compile a concise and professional safe dig information pack, collating all the 'stats' onto a single Safedigging drawing, overlaid onto either a topographical survey or an OS tile.

Safedigging Ltd is the only one stop-shop and the first choice for the collation of asset information.
